INTRODUCTION:
Internet, the most useful technology of modern times which helps us not only in our daily lives but also in professional lives. For educational purposes, it is widely used to gather information and to do research or add to the knowledge of various subjects Internet plays a very vital role in education. It is no doubt that in this modern era everyone prefers Google for their queries, problems or doubts. Popular search engines like Google, Yahoo, etc. are the topmost choice of people as they offer an easy and instant reach to the vast amount of information in just a few seconds. It contains a wealth of knowledge that can be searched at any time. The internet has introduced improvements in technology, communication, and online entertainment.
APPLICATION OF INTERNET IN EDUCATION:
Application of internet in education to the students’ means that it makes easier for them to research things, and relearn the content taught in the school. People use it according to their needs and interests.
There are many benefits of the internet in the field of education. Some of these are:
1. Cost Effective and Affordable Education
One of the largest barriers to education is high cost. The Internet improves the quality of education, which is one of the pillars of sustainable development of a nation. It provides education through Videos (like youtube tutorial videos) and web tutorials which is affordable to everyone and cost-effective.
2. Student – Teacher and Peer Interaction
The internet has allowed students to be in constant touch with their teachers or with other fellow classmates with the help of social media, messaging apps and chat forums. Parents can interact as well as communicate with teachers and school authorities about their kid’s performance in the school. Interaction with the like minded people on forums can help students to explore new ideas and enrich their knowledge.
3. Effective Teaching and Learning Tool
The Internet has become a major tool for effective teaching as well as a learning tool. Teachers can use it as a teaching tool by posting their teaching materials (notes and videos) on school website or forum . The learning process becomes interesting and diverse with the use of tutorial videos and notes. Teachers can teach with the use of animation, powerpoint slides, and images to capture the students’ attention.
4. Easy Access to Quality Education
Students can easily access quality education materials like tutorial videos on youtube for free or pay fees online for more quality study materials. Teachers can also make use of the internet by proving the students with extra study material and resources such as interactive lessons, educational quiz as well as tutorials. Teachers can record their lectures and provide it to the students for revisions which is better than reading from notes.
5. Interaction with Digital Media
Regular use of digital media is one of the most basic parts of our lives. Digital bulletin boards save paper, allow displaying of videos and audios to attract the attention of students.
THE INTERNET: A CULTURAL CHANGE IN DIGITAL ERA
The new society of navigation through information and knowledge is soaked with culture, knowledge, multimedia and virtual things. The cognitive revolution caused by the digitized telematics is already producing technical and social transformations, but it will not generate mutations so radical that they cannot be recognized and administered by the human being. The new multimedia galaxy creates a field, in which knowledge and culture is so easy to achieve that it becomes more revolutionary due to the new questions that arise, rather than its advantages, for example, the question about the future of those who have no access to this electronic luxury. On the one hand, we face a real ocean of information and means of navigation, possibilities of communication and interactivity with the representatives of different cultures, but on the other, we should bear in mind the great responsibility of those who will be able to use them, their levels of independence. We should think of where the control of the access to the nets will be exercised and what measures can be arbitrated for a socially useful utilization of the media instruments.
THE INTERNET: AN EDUCATIONAL LEARNING TOOL
atesThe Internet enlarges the possibilities to acquire new knowledge to unsuspected limits. The concentration in the Net of so many people, ideas and cultures adds to the conception of the learning the multipolarity of levels of social experiences and culturally different people connected virtually. Virtually. This word means that it is a place where series of things exist and circulate. It is considered virtual because it is located at the same distance from anyone. The learning process depends on the dialogic device, cyberspace, hypertexts that the Internet owns. These are the most impressive agora for the establishment of dialogic relationships inclined to the acquisition of new knowledge by circulation through the universal net that multiplies relationships, impels the establishment of ideological contrasts, favourable dialectical processes and, even, real time debates.
THE INTERNET: EXAMINING THE PEDAGOGIC EFFECTIVENESS
The Internet is a space of free disposition, a place with no barriers. It is a place where class privileges and academic authority disappear, a threshold where all are equal and have the same possibilities to express their opinions. However its pedagogic effectiveness is questioned, at least according to what was understood up to now. The new technologies have entered the educational field. Nowadays, with the aid of the computer, it is possible to solve complex problems, which is not quite an ordinary practice at schooI. In the Internet, the information circulates in hypertext formats. It is not difficult to administer this characteristic in education as an example of the necessity of working locally with universal spirit. It is a window opened to the world that favours multilateral exchanges and participation in cooperative project.
Discussion
Learning by applying the internet is very helpful in achieving learning objectives. But in reality, still experiencing many obstacles, especially in Indonesia. The first obstacle is the lack of infrastructure and internet access. To overcome this obstacle is by the procurement of device tools capable of supporting in the provision of internet signals and procurement device to access. The second obstacle is the skills of teachers or students in using the internet. Lack of skills using technology can be caused by not knowing how to integrate technology in learning. The way to overcome
this is to conduct training in the use of technology in learning for teachers. The third constraint is the fear of teachers in using the internet because of the negative impact of the internet. This constraint can be minimized with the existence of ethical code-based technology education. Friendly internet usage can be done partially or simultaneously. Partially can be done by providing knowledge on how to use the internet to develop knowledge, while simultaneously means learning internet and content integrated which learning is not only aimed for content also aims for moral even local
wisdom. More research is needed on how to integrate technological knowledge, content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, moral knowledge, and multicultural knowledge. This is intended to reduce the negative impact of technology as well as other goals such as multicultural issues.
CONCLUSION:
This assessment demonstrates the good acceptance of the two web pages as a means to complement the traditional course of Community or Private Pharmacy. The electronic test has advantages and disadvantages and has to be evaluated continuously since its concept is quite different from a traditional written test. The virtual forum was highly important to encourage students’ participation and their communication with each other. We believe that the use of web pages contributes positively to improve students’ self-confidence. They have different means to communicate with their classmates, with professionals at work and with the professor co-ordinating the course.
